Dow Jones had multiple brands on multiple platforms fed by multiple backends. They built a single app platform with a trunk-based process and a core feature library that can be expanded to fit the specific business requirements of the individual brands.
We began the design process using The Wall Street Journal and tested other brands like Barron's and MarketWatch during the design process. The WSJ app focused on how customers wanted to consume content on small screens while they make coffee, commute to work, take a lunch break, and wrap up their day.
The design system is comprised of flexible story cards containing optional components that enable the editorial teams to report the story. The cards adapt dynamically to any surface and are themeable by brand.
